Fitness testing with Fitnessgram

We have a severe obesity problem in the United States and this is especially true with our youth. Depending on the publication, obesity in children and adolescents is anywhere from 15-35% and growing. With all of the focus on Standardized testing in the schools, daily physical education has been hard to come by. However, we are fortunate at FMS to have a daily physical education program.

In 2008 we adopted a program called fitnessgram at FMS. This program focuses testing on the 5 components of physical fitness. (Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexability, Body Composition) With the results that are gathered we are able to structure our P.E. classes around what particular component is lacking. We also want to inform you as parent, of your child's fitness levels with the hopes that we can work together to improve their fitness. We will be testing 4 times a year, once at the beginning of the school year, and again at the end of each tri-mester. You should be receiving your child's results shortly after each of these tests. Each result's sheet will have your child's fitness score as well as helpful hints on how to improve a particular area of need. Please use these hints and other information on our website to help our children stay healthy and physically fit.
